Fallen Nation (English)

Antonio: Welcome boys, on our Metallicomio! Just to make it clear to you, the name stands for “Metal Asylum”! First of all, I would like you to introduce yourselves to our readers!

Sergey (Drums): Hello everyone! We are Fallen Nation and our mission is to punish!

Dmitry (Lead Guitars): Hello, we are Fallen Nation and we are not the ones who like words “integrity” and “stability”!

Alexandr (Bass, Vocals): We are Fallen Nation and our plan is to redefine the meaning of the word "insanity".

Egor (Lead Guitars):Our plan is to give our generation what it lacks: drive, insanity, sincerity of oldschool metal!

What are your main sources of inspiration, when writing music?

Alexandr: Hatred and desire to be cooler than everyone else.

Dmitry: The environment of influences comes from the various sources: books, music, stupid idiots, masturbation of artificial intelligence, but mostly music, yes!

Sergey: Ha, it’s hard to say, sometimes you can come up with some riff or idea while you are in an unexpected place, at work, in transport, or even in a toilet, ha! Usually I just take anaxe and start to warm up and I end up with some riffs. Sure, it’s undeniable that what you are listening to influences you, for example Slayer or Voivod or something else. I think that everything, which you had ever listened to, gives you a lot of influence as a composer, arranger, etc.

Egor:All songs for the demo were written before I joined the band, but everyone of us is constantly developing arrangements of the songs, so they’re all have changed even if comparing with the last year! When I’m working on some riff or solo I always can say what influenced me to write it, mostly it’s Coroner or Voivod but I’m trying to add something new each time, it’s a mixture of everything that influenced me, whether it’s 70’s progressive rock or some classic 80’s oldschool metal.

What about the themes? What do you speak about?

Dmitry: Everything that scares wimps: war, violence, space.

Alexandr: Most of our old songs (Endure My Anger, Die in a Fire) are about the desire to kill and thirst for violence. Our newer songs (Eternal Darkness and songs that will appear on full-length album) are mostly about the future. We are living in the time of cultural decline; consequently humanity would rather disappear as a result of societal collapse than naturally extinct, or probably it will beconquered by another, more powerful inhuman civilization. Not anytime soon, but eventually.

Egor:Alexandr writes most lyrics, he is the brain of our band (and genius).Nowadaysit’s mostly sci-fi themes, some superhuman things. It’s great, because I’m a big fan of classic (and not only) sci-fi.

Sergey: Personally, I wrote only one song on the demo and it’s “Wartime”. It’s about war and an ordinary soldier who was sent to an armed conflict. It’s about how he needs to survive on a battlefield, despite deaths of his friends and ones who fought with him side by side and that he feels the breath of death. Other themes that interest me are violence, corruption, injustice and some sci-fi.

Since the formation of the band and the debut of your demo, six years have passed. What happened during this period?

Dmitry: It’s a short story and I’m very proud of it. I told this to many of my friends. Everything started when the 4-string god of universe and I met. I was very impressed by his skills and his knowledge of metal. I think, it was a lucky certainty which put a start to our band. And the answer is very simple: we searched for like-minded people and we searched them for a very long time. Actually it was a very boring period which dragged for a really long time by mistake, so fuck it. We needed a lotof time, but I’m glad that everything is going great now and nothing has broken after that long and complicated period of our history. Mostly, stagnation was caused by the lack of experience being a band as a family. But now I can say for sure that these people are not only my companions in a band but also best friends, and maybe even a family.

Alexandr: Dmitry and I started a band back in early 2011, soon to be joined by the 2nd guitar player R. Kashipov. We started first as a straightforward thrash band, we played in vein of early Slayer/Razor/Metallica/Exodus/Nuclear Assault, but as time went we’re started to write more complex stuff under the influence of Voivod/Vektor/Coroner/Watchtower/Deathrow/Hellwitch, etc. It took us some time to develop as musicians, but the real problem was to find a long-term drummer. Also, the lack of experience and order hadn’t helped much in our early days. Some of the songs on our demo were written even back then in 2012: Endure my Anger, Red Dawn, Die in a Fire. By 2013 Kashipovhas left (you can check his new band Casamatta if you like stuff in vein of Mastodon). It took us a lot of time to find a guitar player and a drummer who would be serious musicians and who would share our views on music and, luckily we found Egor and Sergey and they really kick ass! So now everyone in our line-up is very skilled and committed to metal. We completed this line-up in early 2016 and since then we did some local shows and recorded a demo. We’ve written 8 songs for our full-length album and we’re finalizing them at the moment, we hope that we would record and release them some time next year. They will be more progressive than songs on our demo, but you can be ensured that they’re still very fast and thrashy!

Sergey: I don’t know what I can say about all this time, I’m in a band only since 2014. The highlight of this time is that I have honor to play with these insane bastards! I also divorced my wife since then. Everything else is quite standard now – we are working on new stuff, playing some gigs, ruining our livers.

Egor:The band couldn’t find musicians to complete the line-up and it was hard because all metalheads herehadknown each other personally.

What does the artwork for the demo represent, to you?

Egor: This artwork is cool, thanks to our friend Tony from Torn Apart, check them, they play true oldschool Death Metal. The artwork is in a classic style with some elements of sci-fi in vein of Voivod,Vektoretc, because we are really into this stuff! I think, the artwork truly represents the spirit of our music!

Alexander: We asked him to do an artwork in vein of the 80’s tape demos.

Sergey: It’s some guy with machine gun and chaos.

Dmitry:The cover represents cosmic patrol’s hard work – they’re fightingfalse metal!

What do you think about the Russian metal scene?

Sergey: We have a lot of talented musicians and I hope that they will go further than drunk rehearsals and gigs in half-empty clubs.

Alexander: My opinion is less optimistic. I can’t say anything good about Russian metal scene nowadays, there are a lot of horrible bands. The lack of inspiration is a big problem. Also there’sa lot of bands that start as a metal bands and then they add modern influences to their music to sound trendy and they’re becoming really disgusting.May the Metal Gods cleanse them all with radiation! Rage towards all these fake metal bands inspires me to write even angrier! We’re all into metal since early age and we will play it until we die, so you’ll never hear us doing some modern hardcore or shit like that. There are still a dozen of nice metal bands out there, props to them!

Dmitry: Russian metal scene can be compared with male's organ of reproduction, a symbol of the continuation of life. There’s some positive moments, but mostly there’s no culture, no aesthetics and it's sickening to look at it. Of course, there’s some exceptions and if youlook closer, you can find some handsome spots, but for a common man it’s mostly a breeding ground for venereal diseases (Let’s talk without specific examples). There’s talented people and bands with huge potential out there, but they’re left without attention, incomprehensible for what reasons. I respect a lot of bands here, but I think our scene could be much better and bigger. Everything gets ruined by the lack of interest both from players and listeners.

Egor:Actually, Russian scene is quite miserable, there are people that are really into it out there, but there’s a problem with implementation. You can count bands that have oldschool sound and interesting stuff by the fingers of one hand. There’s some good examples but they are in other genres. Russian scene lacks unique minds that would have guts to express their ideas, a lot of people there just downtrodden and they lack frankness. It’s exactly opposite to what we do, we play oldschool metal, spirited and interesting!

Band: Much thanks to Metalicomio and all readers for interest in our music!
